A short smartphone diatribe

Our phones should not:

  • Constantly monitor our location

  • Restrict the apps/operating systems that can be used on them

  • Be surveilled by any corporation or government

  • Do as much as they do

Our phones should:

  • Be ours

  • Be repairable

  • Last at least 4-6 years

  • Be customizable, both in hardware and software

  • Retain as much personally identifiable information onboard the device as is feasible

  • Teach us about themselves
